One of the key elements to success with affiliate marketing is picking the right products to promote. They could be digital information products, memberships, physical products, online services… there are many industries that use this model. When promotiing to your target market, you may be promoting one or many of these different types of products as an affiliate.

What the chart above doesn’t show is the role of the affiliate marketing network (e.g., Commission Junction or LinkShare). From the publisher’s point of view, the affiliate network is involved very early on in the process, generally supplying the ad creative and affiliate links used to refer traffic. They’re also involved at the last (and most important) step in the process: a portion of the commission earned by the affiliate goes to the network who matches them up with merchants and handles the various administrative functions.

Week 3 video series helps in driving sales. These videos claim to help people recognize their weaknesses and get over them. The system teaches one how to build email list and how to market products. The videos also teach the art of the follow-up. This is one of the key skills that one must master for making more sales. The videos claim to teach how to earn the trust of subscribers and convince them to purchase your products and services. There are only few people who purchase when an offer is made for the first time. This is where marketers fail, as they give up when people turn down the first offer. Follow-up is important for increasing sales. 
No website. SAN won’t teach you how to build a website or how to use a platform like WordPress. They don’t have their own website builder or hosting service. That is perhaps the reason their training focuses more on email marketing and not so much about attracting organic traffic. In my opinion, creating your own website is a must. Otherwise, you can’t really say that you are going to build an online business. You are just creating a sales funnel.

Good point about reviewing online courses before you promote them to protect your reputation. However, I would like to point out that the level of attention the course creator gives you (the endorser) and what they give to a random customer might be very different. There are so called marketing gurus out there who are extremely skilled at making false promises and not delivering on them. Once they have the endorsement of a few reputed marketers and some ‘lucky’ customers, they can easily get away with ripping other people off with hyped up money making guarantees. I have had a personal experience with this as a customer, but lets not mention names! The point is, when we are promoting someone, we need to do an in-depth due diligence. Only going through their course is not enough. It would be great if there was some kind of a course review site -something like tripadvisor. This is something that the industry really needs – something to make people accountable. A lot of people are losing faith in these online courses. I am staying away from promoting people unless I am very certain of their integrity.
